Beginning of Season Preparation

If we are going to get your lawn off to a great start this year, NOW is the time.

Why Pre-emergents?

Weeds are easier to prevent than to control. It's because of this that we apply pre-emergent products to prevent weed seeds from germinating and then emerging in your lawns.

The Facts

Weed seeds begin to germinate when the soil temps average 55 degrees for a week straight. Currently the average soil temps are 49.4, by the end of next week it will be in the 52 degree range. So this is the perfect time for me to apply pre-emergent to prevent weed seeds from germinating and overtaking your lawns this year. These products are very effective when they are applied and are watered (irrigation system or rain) in within 2 weeks after being applied. 

Some of you will be having your lawns seeded this Spring. If this is you don't worry I'll be using a product, Tenacity (Mesotrione), that allows us to still be able to seed without it preventing the weed seeds from germinating. For the rest you I'll be using Prodiamine. Both of these have a long successful history of being very effective. Using them personally I haven't had any crabgrass in my lawn in over 3 years!

How You Can Help

These products work best when they are able to get into the soil. So if your lawn is covered with dead leaves from the fall or sticks and branches then take some time and use a blower to blow off the lawn and pick up the sticks. If you haven't picked up after your dogs all winter, this would be a great time to do that as well!

Look Out

Look out for a yellow treatment sign in your lawn. This will be a way to know I was there to treat your lawn. These are required by us to leave in the lawn by the Department of Agriculture. However, you can remove them after 24hrs.
